Finding and Publishing Data

How do I publish my data?

You can publish your data at no cost using Dryad, the general data repository for UC Berkeley. For more information and guidance on how to create a Dryad account using your UCB credentials, please refer here: https://researchdata.berkeley.edu/tools/dryad. For discipline specific data publishing options, please contact the Research Data Management Program for assistance -- researchdata@berkeley.edu

Contracts and Grants

When do I need a data agreement?

A Data Use Agreement is required when receiving non public data from a third party including where the receipt of data bears restrictions on use, sharing, confidentiality, publication, or other legal terms and conditions.

A Data Access Agreement is required to gain access to another party's secure data site to use the data there; no data transfer takes place.

What is the difference between Data Use and Data Access?

Research Data Use Agreements (DUAs) govern access to and treatment of data provided by an outside organization to Berkeley for use in Berkeley research.

Similar to a Data Use Agreement, a Data Access Agreement (DAA) is an agreement used to gain access to another party's secure data site to use the data there; no data transfer takes place. To have your DUA or DAA reviewed, contact the Industry Alliances Office.

My sponsored project involves receipt of data. Who do I talk to?

The Sponsored Projects Office handles federal, state, and non-profit awards.

The Industry Alliances Office handles industry contracts as well as stand-alone data use agreements.

Who can review and sign my Data Use Agreement?

There may be several types of Data Use Agreement, depending on whether the agreement covers research data or commercially available data, or whether the data is coming in to Berkeley or being sent out from Berkeley to another party. Click here to explore the offices that can help.
